Sorting out

I take ads and cold outreach that don't suit you out of your inbox and file newsletters in their folder. Nothing is deleted – and I remember every correction.

I tidy your inbox in two ways: I sort out offers that don't suit you, and I file categories you don't want in your inbox. I only do either while Sort out offers that don’t fit is switched on under Settings → What I may do for you.

What I sort out

  • Unsuitable offers. Ads and cold outreach (categories Cold outreach and Partnership) that barely match your Your interests or touch a topic you've excluded. They get the Gmail label “C+/Gefiltert” and appear under Offers → Unsuitable. As long as you haven't added any interests, I don't sort out offers.
  • Categories I file automatically. Every email gets a category, such as Newsletter, Notification or General, plus a matching Gmail label “C+/…”. Out of the box I only file newsletters automatically. For every other category you decide: File automatically or Keep in inbox – at the top of the category or under Settings → File categories automatically. General always stays in the inbox.

I never sort out personal or ongoing business mail because of your topics. These also always stay in the inbox: emails from VIPss, emails belonging to an active file, conversations with a Conversation pass, emails you're waiting for (Let me know when someone writes), and categories you've marked as important.

Why an email is where it is: open Why is this mail here? in the email.

Re-sorting and learning

If an email is in the wrong place, open Why is this mail here? in the email and tap Wrong category?. In the sheet Where does this email belong? I suggest a category. You can also pick one yourself or create a new one. Then tell me what it applies to:

  • All emails like this – I note in one sentence what kind of email belongs there and sort similar mail the same way from now on.
  • “Everything from …” – all emails from this sender, including future ones.
  • Just this one – just this email.

With Important – front office I always put emails in this category in front of you and never sort them out. If I find older emails that belong there too, I ask whether to move them as well.

Actually important brings a sorted-out offer back to your inbox. I remember that and sort out similar mail less often.

If something's wrong

Wrong category: re-sort it via Wrong category?. What I learned from that is listed – and can be deleted – under Settings → Categories. A sender who always lands in the wrong place: Sender rules.
