Setting aside

Not now? I’ll bring an item back later – in three hours, tomorrow morning or on Monday. It returns by itself.

How to set something aside

Some things need you, but not now. For that the item has the Later ▾ button with three times:

  • In 3 hours
  • Tomorrow morning (at 8 am)
  • Next Monday (at 8 am)

The S key opens the same menu. It’s quicker from the list: the quick action Tomorrow on hover sets it aside until tomorrow morning (Quick actions); on the phone a swipe to the left does the same. And you can tell me, as an instruction about the email: “Bring it back on Monday”, or the suggestion Bring back tomorrow (Instruction about an email).

The item then leaves its folder. The email itself stays in Gmail or Outlook where it is; a prepared draft is kept.

Where it sits

Items set aside are collected at the very bottom of the list under Set aside. The group is collapsed and shows when the next item returns. Expand it and you see every entry with its return time and can open it. The History also lists set-aside items under Set aside.

Bring back now

Need the item sooner after all? Hover over the entry in Set aside and click Bring back now. It’s immediately back in its folder, just as before.

At the chosen time it comes back by itself anyway, with the same suggestion and the same reply.

Setting aside is not a deadline

Setting aside only moves the moment I ask you again. A deadline stated in the email is unaffected; it stays as a tag on the item, even while set aside. If you want me to remind you of something that isn’t tied to an email, make it a task (Tasks).

If something’s wrong

Picked the wrong time? Open the item under Set aside and choose another time under Later ▾, or bring it back immediately with Bring back now.
