Features one at a time

I introduce new features the moment you need them – one after the other. If you want to see everything right away, you can switch.

How it works

On day one you only see Front office, Inbox and Done. I hold everything else back until there’s a real reason: the first invoice, the first meeting request, the first sorted-out offer, enough contacts. Then a card appears in the front office headed Up next: what the feature does, why now, and a button to try it.

Three rules apply:

  • One at a time. While an introduction is open, no second one appears.
  • Not more often than every few hours. Even if several triggers fire at once.
  • Nothing disappears. What you’ve seen once stays in the navigation. Freshly unlocked items briefly carry the New tag there.

Later puts the card away; the feature stays unlocked anyway. If you open a page via a link or the search, it counts as discovered too.

Some things don’t need a card but a hint right where they happen. Quick actions, for example, I explain once directly above the list in the front office; Got it dismisses the hint (Quick actions).

What comes in which order

Roughly in this order, each only once its trigger is there: Notifications · Connecting your calendar and your day · Giving instructions · Offers · Files · Invoices · Bank reconciliation with MoneyMoney (Mac app only) · Routines · VIPs · Attention value · Quick actions · Contacts · LinkedIn and Apple Contacts · What I'm called · Network · Goals & products · Desk · News from Thomas.

For new users I also show the categories in the sidebar only once there’s mail for them; your own and job-related categories are always visible.

All features right away

Don’t want to wait? Show all features now sits on every introduction card, on the phone under More and in settings under Show features one at a time. After that all menu items are there. Features added later I’ll introduce once as New as soon as their trigger fires.

Back to “one at a time” is in settings via Show one at a time again. Whatever would already have been due stays visible; nothing you know disappears.

Anyone who used Consent+ before this change sees everything from the start.

If something’s wrong

Missing a menu item you know exists? Then its trigger hasn’t happened for you yet. Opening the page directly (for example via search) unlocks it, as does Show all features now.
